Year of Yay! is a series of 12 monthly bicycle tours that are FREE for members and first-time guests. Year of Yay! is being offered in 2016 through the generous support of the Whole Foods Market at Easton, where each ride will begin and end throughout the year. First-time riders and anyone with questions: join us 15 minutes early (9:45am) to learn the rules of the road and this ride!
This month, ride leaders Shirley Droney and Shyra Allen bring you the theme 'MURALS'! Working with local partners, we will peel back the layers of paint and reveal the stories behind the artwork of three murals:
Stop #1—Our first stop is the mural “Getting From Here to There”, which depicts commuters boarding an opened car trolley for a summer jaunt and shopping. It was painted in the very early days of Easton by the artist Hennings of the Seth Harris Company.
Stop #2—Next we will hit the road toward the Golf Depot mural painted by the California artist Pidge Jobst. It is a remarkable combination of rails, trains and golf with highlights of a parent and child. Here we will have the opportunity to use the facilities at City View Columbus, where purveyor Travis Barnes promises plenty of cold beverages.
Stop #3—We’ll bunny hop the Big Walnut Creek Trail for a few quiet and pleasant moments and emerge on the meandering streets of Gahanna, where we’ll joined by Gahanna Parks and Recreation at the Gahanna History Mural to discuss its history. Facilities will be available again before our return to Whole Foods Easton.
Our DRAFT route is here (route will be finalized a week prior to the ride).
