Year of Yay! is a series of 12 monthly bicycle tours that are FREE for members and first-time guests. Year of Yay! is being offered in 2016 through the generous support of the Whole Foods Market at Easton, where each ride will begin and end throughout the year. First-time riders and anyone with questions: join us 15 minutes early (9:45am) to learn the rules of the road and this ride!

This month, ride leader Alec Fleschner brings you LOCAL FOOD—where it comes from, how we make it, and how it brings us together.

Stop #1—The first stop will be at the Columbus Produce Terminal, where we’ll learn a couple of ways we get the fresh food we eat. Sanfillipo Produce Company will talk about their history, growing from an immigrant selling produce in 1899 to the produce distributor it is today. We will also be talking to Great River Organics, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group that delivers certified organic produce every week or two to members of the non-profit cooperative. Sanfillipo Produce will have sample bags for riders to take with them.

Stop #2—We head north to Coffee Time Bakery & Cafe, where they will discuss the role of a local coffee shop and bakery. In addition, Coffee Time sells specialized baking supplies and operates the adjacent Candyland Candy Store, which sells current and vintage brands of candy. Take some sweets along for the ride!

Stop #3—Our last stop is Nazareth Restaurant & Deli, a local Mediterranean restaurant where On Feb. 11, a man attacked and injured four people with a machete, making national headlines. Owner Hany Baransi wasn’t sure if the restaurant would stay open, but they just completed a remodeling and concept change. We will learn about the history of the restaurant, how they are moving past the horrible events, and where it hopes to be in the future. Samples will be provided.
